Five players Jets could make run at during NFL free agency period

The NFL free agency period starts Monday: Here are five players the Jets could make pursue:

1. Kirk Cousins, QB, Redskins

The top free agent on the market, Cousins is going to command big bucks and have several suitors. The Jets could end up signing him to a whopping contract in the neighborhood of five years, $150 million. If he solves the Jets’ never-ending quarterback issues, he will be worth every penny.

2. Malcolm Butler, CB, Patriots

The Super Bowl hero turned Super Bowl spectator is one of the top corners on the market. The Jets are trying to re-sign Morris Claiborne. A Butler-Claiborne duo on the outside, along with Buster Skrine at nickel corner and the two young safeties, would give the Jets a solid secondary.

3. Allen Robinson, WR, Jaguars

This is going to be a tricky market for Robinson, who is coming off ACL surgery. If he is looking for a long-term deal, the Jets should pass. If he is willing to take a one-year “prove it” deal, the Jets should try to bring him in to give them a No. 1 WR threat.

4. Dion Lewis, RB, Patriots

Another former Patriot should interest the Jets. The 27-year-old does not have a lot of wear and tear, with just 329 career carries. Lewis is a receiving threat as well as a runner, and would join Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire in the backfield.

5. Weston Richburg, C, Giants

The Jets’ offensive line was not as bad last year as some people made it out to be, but they need an upgrade at center. Richburg washed out with the Giants, losing his starting job last year, but might be able to move across town and revive his career.
