Mom frantically tried to revive baby killed in tragic crash

A Park Slope man told The Post how he found the stricken mom of one of the children fatally mowed down in Monday’s crash kneeling beside the body of her son — and that the pair futilely tried to bring him back to life.

“The mom was sitting there next to him screaming,” said fourth-year medical student Andrew Macaluso, 26, describing mother Lauren Lew and her 1-year-old son, Joshua, at the scene of the horrific afternoon incident, which also left a 4-year-old girl dead.

“She was just kind of, ‘Oh, God, this can’t be happening. Tell me this isn’t happening. What’s going on?’ ” Macaluso said of Lew.

“I said, ‘Are you the mom,’ and she said, ‘Yeah.’ … The child had blood on his face. She wipes off his face and gives him air while I’m giving him chest compressions.”

He said the pair worked on the baby for about 2 and a half minutes on Ninth Street at Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn before paramedics arrived and rushed the boy and his mother to the hospital.

Macaluso said he knew things didn’t look good for the boy, who wasn’t breathing when he got to him.

He said that coming upon the traumatic scene was “terrifying at first,” but then his medical training kicked in, and “at least I knew what I had to do.”

Lew’s grandmother told The Post that her granddaughter wasn’t doing “too well.”

The grandma’s voice trembled with emotion as she described Joshua as “a darling little boy.

“I still can’t believe it,” she said.
