Staten Island will have to wait a day to find out its fate. The Mid-Island Little Leaguers were rained out against the team from Berlin, Md., on Saturday in the Mid-Atlantic Regional title game in Bristol. Conn.
Instead of playing, they spent Saturday night eating out at Mama Luke’s, an Italian restaurant near Bristol. Staten Island coach Joe Calabrese told The Post that the rainout will have little to no effect on the availability of any of his players.
“It really has no bearing except for the fact that the kids are excited, they wanted to play and we’re sitting around,” Calabrese said.
The game has been moved to Sunday at 1 p.m., and will be telecast on ESPN, with the winner moving onto Williamsport for the Little League World Series.
Maryland came out of the losers’ bracket with wins Thursday (6-0 over Keystone Little League of Pennsylvania) and Friday (11-1 against the team from Middletown, N.J.).
The winner of the New York-Maryland game will play Grandview Little League from Des Moines, Iowa next Thursday at 3 p.m. in the opening round.
“I feel good,” Calabrese said of his team’s chances Sunday. “Same way I feel about today. It’s just, rain sucks, but it is what it is. You can’t control Mother Nature, so, we’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”
