Six months after Hurricane Irma, Saint-Martin rebuilds

Nearly a third of all buildings on the island of Saint Martin were destroyed when Hurricane Irma smashed across the Caribbean in September 2017, killing six people and injuring dozens.

But in the six months since the deadly storm, residents on the island — split between French and Dutch territories — have begun to rebuild. These comparison photos taken on March 2 in Marigot, Saint-Martin, show how the picturesque island paradise has recovered since the brutal hurricane.
