A baby shower in Memphis reportedly turned violent when an off-duty police officer got involved in a brawl, according to officials.
Wendi Schuchardt, 40, was charged Thursday after she allegedly fought with several guests at the Clarion Hotel while celebrating her daughter’s baby shower, news station WMC-TV reported.
Schuchardt, a West Memphis police officer, is accused of using a chokehold on another person who allegedly said something rude to her daughter at the March 24 shower.
Authorities said that surveillance video captured the soon-to-be grandmother’s group arguing with a couple at the venue. The footage reportedly showed Schuchardt then following a couple to their room, where a fight broke out between her and another woman, according to news station WREG.
“We saw some things that rose to the level of criminal conduct,” Police Capt. Joe Baker told WMC-TV. “This was a tragic situation for her and her career, but it’s conduct we just cannot condone.”
Schuchardt was booked Thursday on charges of felony aggravated assault and third-degree battery. She is next scheduled to appear in court May 29.
The West Memphis Police Department said she was fired four days after the incident, according to Arkansas Online.
